OUR LADY OF CALARY
Our Lady of Calvary commissioned artwork for 14 doors in the sanctuary of the church. The six main entrance doors are all full light doors with original designs by Milano Glassworks with the theme of lilies in a cross form to symbolize Mary and Calvary. Within each door is a medallion in gilt and etched glass . On the left side, drawing from Michelangelo’s Pieta for Our Lady of Calvary and The Holy Family, the center Alpha and Omega, and on the right side St. John Neumann and St. Katharine Drexel (the two Philadelphia Saints). The egg and dart border in silver, brass and gold is a traditional ornamentation and occurs at the alter of the church and the historic Tabernacle which was relocated from St. Katharine Drexel’s church.
Careful consideration is given to every detail in the iconography, design, fabrication of the project to ensure they will be part of the sacred space for generations to come. All the panels are chemically strengthened laminated safety glass and all the artwork is subsurface to avoid any scratching or tarnishing of the metallic finish.
